Trees and Mountains

Q:  Does Lake Forest operate as an Assisted Living Facility?

A:  No.  We are a senior living community offering a wide range of independent housing options.  Lake Forest stands independently as a senior retirement community with its own Board of Directors, and is not affiliated with any other senior living, assisted living or nursing homes. There are several amenities included in the service package which provides autonomy and the ability to age in place with dignity.

Q:  Can you hire a caregiver to aid?

A:  Yes.  Many residents at Lake Forest hire caregivers to support their individualized needs.  Although Lake Forest does not directly provide these services, an established group of compassionate individuals is readily available.

Q:  Is there an application fee to join the community?

A:  There is a $1500 non-refundable application fee for the congregate apartments and a $2500 application fee for the duplexes.  These funds do not apply toward rental fees.  The application fee is utilized to help manage the waitlist.  It also ensures that you are prioritized based on the date your application is received.

Q:  How long is the waitlist and what happens if I am not ready?

A:  The average wait period for an apartment range between three to six months at minimum.  The waiting period for duplex units can be two years or more.  There are many factors involved in predicting available openings.  We try to provide an estimate based on turnover experience.  It is best to contact us directly for more information.

If you are offered a unit, you can opt out if you are not ready.  Your position on the waitlist will not change.

Q:  Do you have staffing 24 hours per day, seven days per week?

A:  Typically, staffing is available 12 hours per day, 7:30AM – 7:30 PM.  We have an on-call system that is utilized for emergencies for all other periods of time.  Residents also have the option to utilize the LifeNet system free of charge for use in their respective units.

Q:  Is the main building secure?

A:  Yes.  All entrances to the congregate building are locked.  Access to the building can only be made through a security fob that is given to staff, residents, and family members.

Q:  Do you offer meals?

A:  Dinner is included Monday through Saturday at 5:30 PM and Brunch on Sundays at 12:30 PM.  We also provide other optional meals at a nominal charge.  On Monday, Wednesday & Friday, we offer soup & salad. We also have omelets every Thursday at 12pm, and a free pancake breakfast on the third Thursday of the month. The first Friday of every month we have a Michigan lunch that you can sign up for at the activity board. Our Chef also plans special lunches and bake sales for our residents to enjoy.

Q:  Do you provide transportation?

A: Between the hours of 8:30am-3:30pm, Monday through Friday, we have two vans that we utilize for resident transports. Transportation must be set up with at least 24-hour notice, and we can bring you to your doctor, therapy, and salon appointments.
